Many moons ago I had lunch at Ethos and thought it would be a good idea to try their dinner selection as I was so impressed previously. Situated on Eastcastle Street, just behind Oxford Street this wonderful self-serve restaurant offers a plethora of veggie and vegan food.
The restaurant itself is a very trendy joint with trees from floor to ceiling and boasting a great range of drinks and desserts, it is a great place to go for a dining experience sure to suit everyone’s taste buds. I ordered a sparkling coconut water with raspberry that was delicious and a perfect start to what was going to be a very delicious meal…
I have been trying to be on a healthy eating diet this year and so have put mock meats to the side for a while just to up my intake of fruit and veggies, however, there was no way I was going to surpass the seitan stroganoff, curiosity got the better of me, and this was the first thing on my plate with some goji berry rice that made a winning combo.
Sweetcorn fritters, I could also not resist and so a few of these found their way to my plate, they were very tasty and added a nice texture of crunch to the plate!
Miso glazed aubergine with chilli, spring onions and sesame seeds, okay – stop. The aubergine deserves a moment…. it was so good that I wished I had eaten 3 or 4 more of them! I love aubergine so anyway it is cooked I will eat it with glee but this was a so tasty and I was so happy that I chose this for my plate and would highly recommend that you try this if you visit Ethos!
Green beans with chickpeas and peas fulfilled the ‘green’ element of my plate, with the green beans being perfectly al dente to convey their freshness to the plate, topped with smokey baba ganoush and some flatbread to mop it all up with I was feeling very content with my choices.
However, the idea of vegan desserts was worth exploring to me, especially as they were placed at the front of the restaurant to catch your eye as soon as you enter, they had been on my mind all evening, and yes, the diet was about to go downhill (slightly), from cupcakes to doughnuts and everything else in between, with a delicious vegan style ‘snickers’ bar that was absolutely exceptional.
Well worth breaking my diet for and I don’t regret it for a moment, in fact, I think I will be returning here for my next sweet treat cheat day! If you are ever in need of a respite from a hard days shopping on Oxford Street this is the ultimate sweet treat destination!
