Situated on Holloway Road, Zia Lucia – the lovely Italian restaurant felt instantly welcoming. I loved the way it was laid out and we were met with a wonderful smile, which is always nice. Feeling rather hungry we decided to have a starter each, I opted for the butternut squash salad and we also ordered the bruschetta.
The bruschetta was served with chopped tomato and fresh basil, which was delicious, perfect as a light starter. The salad had roasted butternut squash, sundried tomatoes, asparagus, artichokes and capers, which was one of the best salads I have had in a long time, very tasty and fresh with lots of flavour and texture combinations. This was a really lovely starter and set me up nicely for the main.
We both order the ‘La Vegana’ pizza, with a butternut squash cream for the base sauce, fresh tomatoes da campo, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes for toppings, it was such a nice tasting pizza. They have four pizza bases to choose from we opted for the charcoal base and the wholemeal base. Both very different in flavour and I really liked the aesthetics of the black pizza base from the charcoal, something which I have never tried before but would definitely have again.
I also had some chilli oil and fresh chilli to sprinkle over the pizza, as I am a bit of a spice lover and it worked so nicely with the fresh veggies. I had the lemon and mint San Pellegrino to aid my meal, which I have never had before,(and I thought I had tried all of them!) It was a nice refreshing drink for in between pizza eating!
To finish, we shared a lemon sorbet as we were both feeling rather full, but always make room for dessert. It was epic, just the right balance of tartness and sweetness, which makes the perfect sorbet. A lovely end to a wonderful meal!
