Staying in the Heather Yurt at Alexander House was like staying in a different world, the silence was moving and the scenery breathtaking. As a child, I had travelled to Scotland and always wanted to go back but never quite ‘got round to it’. However, I did not remember from my younger years, how stunning this land is. The area that surrounds Alexander House, Auchterarder, Perthshire is absolutely incredible.
The yurt itself is a luxury all on its own with a log burner to keep you warm, a super comfy double bed, fridge complete with bubbly and all the amenities you could possibly need for cooking. Adjacent to the bedroom yurt connected the bathroom yurt with a roll top bath that had a good supply of hot water to hand to ensure that a bubble bath was never out of reach.
Everything had been given extra though with the bed coming with an electric blanket, one for each side of the bed, so there are to be no arguments! It had a lovely thick duvet and very good pillows, this was a great place for comfort, if you felt like chilling in the day but wanted to get out of bed, then the sofa is also a very nice option with a faux fur throw this is a place you can really get comfortable on with a nice cuppa.
The view from the yurt was phenomenal, as well as the surrounding area, that was breathtaking to walk through, though would advise hiking boots as there is mud to be acquainted with!
The stars are best viewed from the hot tub which is perfect even in the winter for some evening astronomy, the views are so unique and you will be feeling like you are literally on top of the world in no time.It is a wood heated hot tub so you can get it going nice and early in the evening ready for a dip later on, perfect with the bubbly!
When it comes to the tranquillity that this place has to offer, the silence is priceless, it is the perfect destination to get away from it all and simply relax. I would highly recommend a walk around the lake that is close by this was suggested to us by Jimmy, who is the lovely gentleman that is on hand should you need anything, he also can advise a pretty good walking route and should you wish to have an afternoon ramble, my only advise is stop a few times,to take it all in,the silence, the views and the solitude because it will be back to the usual routine in no time and you must enjoy and savour every second in this place.
