I have never had any shame in the fact that I am a plate piler, I cannot seem to keep what I need to one plate, without going ‘multi-storey’.
So if you are like me, then one of the sauces you need to aid you in this pile up is sticky onion. It’s really simple to make and it just elevates the plate with the texture and flavour.
I like mine pretty chunky, but if you want it to be smoother, you can always dice the onions finer to start with.
Ingredients –
2 x red onions (peeled and sliced)
1/4 cup x vegan stock
1 x garlic clove (diced)
2 tablespoons x brown sugar
1 tablespoons x paprika
1 teaspoon x mustard powder
4 tablespoons x coconut oil
Black pepper for seasoning
Method –
- Add coconut oil, garlic and onions to a pan on a low heat, allow to soften for 5 minutes.
- Add stock and stir, adding in the mustard powder, paprika and stir well.
- Simmer for a further 10 -15 minutes on a low heat, until thick and glorious.
- Serve immediately or leave to cool and store in a mason jar.
